  • January 2015 REGENTS WEEK

    Regents Exams for high school students will take place

    the week of January 26 to January 29.

    If your child is taking a Regents exam, he or she will receive an exam invitation in school.

    If your child is not taking any of the Regents exam, and is a high school student, he or she does not have school during Regents week.

    There is also no school for ALL high school students on Friday, January 30 and Monday, February 2, 2015.

    Middle school students will be in attendance during Regents Week.

  • Middle School Trip to St. John's University

    Good Evening, This is the East West School of International Studies calling with an important reminder for Middle School parents.  Tomorrow, Friday, January 16th is our Middle School Trip to St. Johns University. Students are to come to school with a bag lunch and snacks. All Middle School students will be dismissed upon return to school which is around 1:30 PM unless they are in the Hodori Program.

  • Queens Lit Lab Spring 2015

  • High School Application Process Update

    Now that the High School Application process has been completed, all we are left to do is wait with fingers crossed for the results in March. 

    A specific date for notification has not yet been set but the procedure is that I will be notified to pick up the Offer letters in March and then I will distribute them to your child. 

    If your child applied for a Specialized High School and their score made the cutoff, he/she will receive two offers.  One for a Specialized High School and one for the non-Specialized High School.  You and your child will pick one and return the letter to me so that I can either accept or decline one of the offers.  If they only receive one offer, they should also return the letter notifying me whether they accept it, want to apply for the second round or appeal. 

    Schools which have considered your child's application and not made an offer, will not be available for the second round or appeal.  I am hopeful that everyone gets their first choice.

    Hello. This is the East-West School of International Studies calling to remind you that our next PTA meeting will be held on this Saturday morning, January 10 at 10:00 AM. All parents and guardians are cordially invited to attend. The business portion of the meeting will offer updated news for parents. It will include reports from our school administrators and other staff members.

    As always, we will provide plenty of time for a question and answer period.  Immediately following the meeting at 11 am, we will be holding a Title 1 Parent Workshop on "Health & Fitness: Zumba or Yoga With Your Child".  We encourage all parents and their children to participate in this free fitness class together. A free yoga mat be given to the first 50 participants. Ms.Torres will be facilitating the Zumba workshop.

  • Winter Festival

    Good Evening, this is the East-West School of International Studies calling with an exciting announcement. Please join us for the East-West Winter Festival on Wednesday, December 17.  Our doors will open at 5:15 pm for our Art and Computer Gallery.  Our concert including chorus and dance will begin at 6pm.  Tickets are $3 each, or 2 for $5 when purchased together.  Tickets may be purchased from Ms. Brainsky, Ms. Minckler and Ms. Kim.     RED FEATHER FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE

    What is the RED feather fundraising?

    In Japan, at the beginning of October each year, everyone can be seen wearing a RED FEATHER on their shirt or clothing. This is a belief that YOU have done a good deed and earned a merit for it by wearing a RED FEATHER.

    We are introducing the RED FEATHER fundraising initiative to support the PTA beginning WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 17th (during our Winter Festival). The suggested donation is $20.00per family. If you cannot attend, you may drop off a check in the office endorsed to the PTA. We will send you the red feather by mail.

    PTA raises funds through membership and fundraising events. From these funds, the PTA provides a wide range of educational enrichment programs, scholarships, classroom materials, and much more! Your generous donations helped pay for the following items this current school year 2014-15:

    • Summer Bridge: August 2014 - Luncheon for the incoming students and new faculty/staff.
    • Thanksgiving Fundraising Initiative (free turkeys and care packages available to the first 50 East-West families). We gave out a total of 53 FREE TURKEY packages on Friday 11/21.
    • FIRST Dean’s List Citizenship Award Luncheon – Pizza luncheon for 55 students and faculty
    • FREE Refreshments during the following events: a) East-West Open House b) Parent Teacher conferences.
    • 2015- January’s Health Awareness Month – FREE Zumba and Yoga classes following the PTA MEETING.

    UPCOMING EVENTS for sponsorship and funds needed for 2014-15:

    • PIZZA PARTY celebration for the upcoming Dean’s List recipients $400.00 approx. (2nd – 4th marking periods).
    • Scholarships for High School Students $600.00;   Scholarships for Middle School Students $300.00 and refreshments for Stepping Up & High School Graduation Ceremonies $1,400.00

    這項募款活動最早起源於日本。每年十月，在日本您可見到很多人的身上別著紅羽毛，這代表此人做了一件善事。

     

    家長教師協會將於星期三，十二月十七日(冬季節慶中)隆重推出此募款活動。建議捐款金額為每個家庭$20。如果您不能参加，您也可將支票放入信封內並交回428辧公室，我們會將〝紅羽毛〞郵寄給您。感謝您的支持!

     

    PLUMA ROJA INICIATIVA DE RECAUDACIÓN.

    ¿Cuál es la recaudación pluma roja???? En Japón, a principios del mes de octubre de cada año, todo el mundo puede ser visto usando una pluma roja en la camisa o en la ropa. Esta es una creencia de que usted ha hecho una buena obra y obtuvo un mérito para que mediante el uso de una pluma roja.

    Estamos presentando la PLUMA ROJA para recaudar fondos para apoyar la escuela y el PTA. La iniciativa empieza el  miércoles, 17 de diciembre (durante el Festival de Invierno).  La donación es de $20.00 por familia. Si no puede asistir, puede dejar una marca en la oficina apoyó a la PTA. Le enviamos la pluma roja por correo.
