RED FEATHER FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE
What is the RED feather fundraising?
In Japan, at the beginning of October each year, everyone can be seen wearing a RED FEATHER on their shirt or clothing. This is a belief that YOU have done a good deed and earned a merit for it by wearing a RED FEATHER.
We are introducing the RED FEATHER fundraising initiative to support the PTA beginning WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 17th (during our Winter Festival). The suggested donation is $20.00per family. If you cannot attend, you may drop off a check in the office endorsed to the PTA. We will send you the red feather by mail.
PTA raises funds through membership and fundraising events. From these funds, the PTA provides a wide range of educational enrichment programs, scholarships, classroom materials, and much more! Your generous donations helped pay for the following items this current school year 2014-15:
- Summer Bridge: August 2014 - Luncheon for the incoming students and new faculty/staff.
- Thanksgiving Fundraising Initiative (free turkeys and care packages available to the first 50 East-West families). We gave out a total of 53 FREE TURKEY packages on Friday 11/21.
- FIRST Dean’s List Citizenship Award Luncheon – Pizza luncheon for 55 students and faculty
- FREE Refreshments during the following events: a) East-West Open House b) Parent Teacher conferences.
- 2015- January’s Health Awareness Month – FREE Zumba and Yoga classes following the PTA MEETING.
UPCOMING EVENTS for sponsorship and funds needed for 2014-15:
- PIZZA PARTY celebration for the upcoming Dean’s List recipients $400.00 approx. (2nd – 4th marking periods).
- Scholarships for High School Students $600.00; Scholarships for Middle School Students $300.00 and refreshments for Stepping Up & High School Graduation Ceremonies $1,400.00

PLUMA ROJA INICIATIVA DE RECAUDACIÓN.
¿Cuál es la recaudación pluma roja???? En Japón, a principios del mes de octubre de cada año, todo el mundo puede ser visto usando una pluma roja en la camisa o en la ropa. Esta es una creencia de que usted ha hecho una buena obra y obtuvo un mérito para que mediante el uso de una pluma roja.
Estamos presentando la PLUMA ROJA para recaudar fondos para apoyar la escuela y el PTA. La iniciativa empieza el miércoles, 17 de diciembre (durante el Festival de Invierno). La donación es de $20.00 por familia. Si no puede asistir, puede dejar una marca en la oficina apoyó a la PTA. Le enviamos la pluma roja por correo.

We are in the stages of planning the 8th grade Stepping Up activities and class trip. To help offset the cost of their 8th Grade Trip, we are asking each family to sell boxes of chocolate from World’s Finest. Last year, we raised over $4,000 from the candy sale. This helped us offset the cost of the coach buses. Please ask your child for the permission slip they were given last week. More details will be offered to you at an 8th grade parent meeting in January. Again, we thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please call the school at 718-353-0009. Thank you to the first “50” families who signed up for our FREE Thanksgiving Care package (bag). It was a successful endeavor and we had so many families who signed up.
If you signed up, please note pick up information below:
PICK UP DATE: NOVEMBER 21, 2014 (FRIDAY)
TIME: 3:30pm-6:30pm
WHERE: East-West; 4th floor PTA office
We cannot hold anyone’s care package since we do not have proper refrigeration for storage.
If you do not pick up your care package on Friday, 11/21/14, it will be donated to another family.
